Life is hard and change is hard. And you are a good person who tries.

4 simple cues that will help you move better 💪

Here are four simple tips you can use to move better and feel great in your workouts.

If you have had an unpleasant feeling about:

« Not sure if this is sketchy, am I doing it right? 🧐 »

…then this is for you!

Let’s dig in.

WATCH: 4 HELPS TO HELP YOU MOVE BETTER

CUE #1: « Keep your foot balanced »

This helps you avoid bending your knees inward, especially during squats and lunges.

Focus on maintaining even pressure between the heel, the base of the big toe, and the base of the little toe during the squat or lunge (front foot lunge only).

The goal is to help you external rotation on the thigh, without overI do it.

CUE #2: « Slam the car door »

This helps you keep your spine in good position as you move into a hinge or deadlift position.

Imagine your hands are full of groceries and you have to slam the car door with the seat of your pants.

The goal is to move the hips vice versa instead of rounding your back down.

Note: some spinal flexion/extension is safe and normal! This is when we have excessive movement at a given time.

CUE #3: « Push your shoes across the floor »

This helps you stay strong through your spine and avoid overdoing it twisting while standing up from a hinged position.

Imagine pushing the soles of your shoes so hard across the floor that they actually leave a footprint.

The goal is to stand up and not arch back.

CUE #4: « Imagine there are strings attached to your elbows »

This helps you avoid putting too much pressure on the front of the shoulder and is great for horizontal rows and presses.

Imagine there are two strings attached to your elbows and someone is standing behind you gently pulling them back and around your torso.

The goal is to have your shoulder blades move around your ribcage in sync with the movement.

And there it is! Four quick cues to help you move with confidence.

And one final point: there is too much fear mongering on the internet about exercise technique.

Our bodies are built a little differently and there are many variations of GOOD movement.

You don’t have to move exactly like the person you see on the internet for it to be safe and effective. ❤️

Hopefully this will give you some ideas and get you moving! 🙌
