Other leak detectors we like

First Warning L1 Wi-Fi Water to leak and freeze detector for $ 62: This large flood sensor, branded first signal, works with applications and accessories for warning or residence. He sends Push notifications and emails to warn you about leakage and sports a 100-decibel alarm that you can stop with the side button. The sensor was relatively slow to alert in all my tests and the pressing notifications passed only when my phone was connected to Wi-Fi. The 5-foot water sensor cable allows you to cover a much larger area and I found it faster. The detector connects directly to Wi-Fi, so you need a decent signal. This sensor can also monitor temperature and humidity, but not very accurately (constantly overestimates temperature and underestimates humidity). The two AA batteries are supposed to last up to two years.

Water Leak Detector switch for $ 18: This rectangular detector triggers SWIFT signals in all my 100-decibel alarm tests. With teeth from above and below, this device quickly detects water. It connects directly to Wi-Fi, so you do not need a center and can send notifications and emails, although you need to set them in the app. Unfortunately, pressing notifications did not go away when I was out of the cell network-connected house instead of Wi-Fi. Smart Home Connectivity is good (Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT) and you can set automation to the Switchbot app, which makes this universal option, especially if you have other switching devices. Switchbot says the two AAA batteries provided are good for up to two years.

Aidot Wines Detector for water leakage S1 Plus (3 pack) for $ 60: Connect the hub of the attachment to your 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi, place the three circular detectors on likely leakage spots and are set. You can pair up to 10 HUB detectors and configure it to send emails and SMS messages on top of App notifications when there is a leak. The probes on the underside of each detector are quite far from each other and it takes 2 millimeters of water before the alarm is triggered. He failed to go out with a constant drip on top, but the alarm sounded as soon as the water came together from below. The alarm reaches 100 decibels, but I like that you can adjust the volume and the duration of the alarms. You can cancel alarms through the application or by pressing the hub buttons. These detectors take CR2 batteries that are good for up to one year, and there is an indication in the application when they die. When I removed a battery from one of them, it took the app for a few hours to update it and show it offline. The last disadvantage is that the hub is round, so it can block adjacent retail outlets. Support for IFTTT is a potentially comfortable extra that could trigger the shutdown of water or light to blink red when leak is detected.

Aqara water leakage sensor for $ 19: This zigbee sensor is best used with Apple’s Homekit and you need a hub Aqara (sold separately). The company makes a good security camera that doubles as a center and offers a full range of smart home sensors. These small round water leakage sensors are very low to the ground, so only 0.5 mm of water below is sufficient to activate the alarm. The droplet on top will not cancel them, but the iPhone notice is triggered as soon as the water pools are under where the probes are. You can also make your connected hub play an alarm and trigger automation through Homekit. Sensors take CR2 batteries and can last up to two years.

Seam by means of a $ 25 monoplane water leakage sensor: This affordable water leakage detector has a design similar to our best choice. The main body is round, with metal legs to detect a water pool and it is drilled into a wall mounting bracket. It is available with an extension of the coin -size attachment, which extends to 3.8 feet. Both the main detector and the extension quickly sound the alarm and send notifications to my phone when they are wet (although the device alarm is not very strong). It takes one CR2 battery, shows the remaining power in the app and warns you when it’s time to change the batteries. Unfortunately, the app is basically and poorly translated, you have to dry the detector to stop the alarm and take too long to warn me when it comes out offline (weird, offline detector switches off by default in the application settings, so you had to to turn it on). You can get this a little more cheaper by buying directly from Monoprice.

Leak detectors to avoid

We had no great experience with every water leakage detector we tested.

SWANN Expiration Sensor for $ 12: While this battery power detector (two AAA) is available, I had a terrible time to adjust it. Your phone should be at 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi, but even then it took me a lot of attempts to connect. Disappointing, you need to remove the screw panel to reset it because there is no option in the application. The signals came to my phone about a minute after I soaked the sensor, but the Swann app was slow and clumsy.
