More Tottenham agony with Odobert’s devastating injury update

The injury further reduces their options on the right wing.

Tottenham forward Wilson Odobert will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL.

Odobert was forced off in the 35th minute of Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat by Newcastle United on Tuesday, which marked Thomas Frank’s final game in charge as subsequently fired

Spurs are just five points above Premier League relegation zone with 12 games to go and their next manager, interim or otherwise, will not have the services of Odobert as Tottenham look to avoid relegation.

A statement from Tottenham read: “We can confirm that Wilson Odobert has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

« Wilson will see a specialist next week before undergoing surgery and will then begin his rehabilitation with our medical staff. »

Odobert has scored two goals and registered four assists in all competitions this season and his injury has not left Tottenham short of options on the right wing.

What Odobert’s injury means for Tottenham

Tottenham are dealing with a terrible injury crisis and now have only three players, Mathis Tell and Randal Kolo Muani and Xavi Simmons, who can play on the right wing.

Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison and Mohamed Kudus, who would be Tottenham’s preferred player on the right side of attack, are injured.

Odobert has only made 10 Premier League appearances this season. Of their remaining options, Kolo Muani looks the most likely to get the nod on the right after making 12 league starts, double that of Tel.

Simons has found a home on the left wing under Frank, with the Netherlands international showing some improved performances.

The decision on who fills that spot will, of course, depend heavily on the new manager.

Roberto De Zerbi is the bookies’ current favorite for the job after leaving Marseille by mutual consent this week.

John Heitinga, who was recently recruited to be part of Frank’s backroom team, is also considered a contender, as is former Spurs striker Robbie Keane. The Irishman has enjoyed a highly successful spell at Hungarian side Ferencvaros.

The dream appointment for many Tottenham fans will see the return of former boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino was sacked by Tottenham in 2019, ending a five-year spell in which he established Spurs as a regular in the top four and led them to the 2019 Champions League final, losing 2-0 to Liverpool.

Tottenham’s next game is the North London derby with Arsenal a week on Sunday.

Who else is injured for Tottenham?

In addition to their problems up front, Tottenham are also dealing with a host of injuries to players elsewhere in the squad.
