Amorim ‘furious’ after Premier League draw

Ruben Amorim criticized Manchester United’s second-half performance and the build-up to West Ham’s equalizer after his side slipped to fifth in the Premier League with a 1-1 draw at home to relegation-threatened Hammers.

Diogo Dalot’s strike from the penalty area put United ahead in the 58th minute, but Songuthu Magasa fired in his first goal for West Ham seven minutes from time to leave the Red Devils eighth and without a win in two home games.

« The whole time we tried to defend away from the goal because we knew they wanted to cross, take a corner and (get) lucky, » Amorim said, analyzing the equalizer.

« It happened – it was a long ball, they won a second ball against three of our guys. We can’t let a team that’s that much taller than us have a corner when the ball (comes from) the keeper.

« Those kinds of details make the difference. A corner in the second half made the difference. »

Manchester United v West Ham: Amorim regrets the result

United had the better of their third-bottom opposition and hit the post through Bruno Fernandes’ first-half strike, but the 20-time champions have won six of their first 15 games of the season in all competitions and drawn three and won one of their last five.

« I’m disappointed and angry, » Amorim said. « That’s it. It’s about working again and trying to win the next one.

« There have been second halves when we have lost control of the game. That was not the case today. After the first goal, we lost a few second balls.

« We need to be better in the second half. Everyone feels we need to score more goals (to make games comfortable). We are inconsistent and need to improve. »

United next visit Wolves on Monday (20:00 GMT), a day after West Ham visit Brighton & Hove Albion (2:00 PM).
