It’s unclear if the 12-time All-Star will play for Toronto.
Chris Paul was traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Toronto Raptors in a three-team trade that also included the Brooklyn Nets.
According to ESPN’s Shams ChanariaThe Nets will receive the Raptors’ 2032 second-round draft pick, guard Ochai Agbaji and cash as part of the deal.
Paul is still under obligation to report to the Raptors’ facility for the 12th time NBA The All-Star could be traded again before Thursday’s deadline.
Paul and the Clippers agreed to end his second spell with the team in December. He reportedly hasn’t spoken with head coach Ty Lue in several weeks.
The 40-year-old has appeared in just 16 games for Los Angeles this season, with Paul averaging 2.9 points and 3.3 assists per game.
The deal allows Toronto to waive the luxury tax while clearing $7 million in salary cap space for the Clippers. In Agbaji, the Nets get a player who shot career highs from the field (49.8%) and from three (39.9%) last season. Playing just 15 minutes per game this season, Agbaji is averaging 4.3 points and 2.3 rebounds. Getting cash allows Brooklyn to cover his salary.
Paul plans to retire at the end of the season. It remains to be seen where he will end his storied career.
