Cristiano Ronaldo urges Al-Nasser to ‘learn and move on’ after disappointing cup defeat to Al-Ittihad

Cristiano Ronaldo has urged his Al-Nasser team-mates to « learn and move forward together » following their disappointing Copa del Rey exit last night.

Al-Nasr, the Saudi Professional League leaders, were beaten 2-1 in the final by Al-Ittihad. It was a determined performance from Sergio Conceicao’s men, who put aside their erratic league form to register an impressive victory.

Ronaldo’s former Real Madrid strike partner Karim Benzema opened the scoring for the visitors before the Portuguese star set up Angelo to equalise, but Hussam Ouar scored what proved to be the winner just before half-time.

Ronaldo is yet to win a major trophy with Al-Nasr since moving to the Middle East from Manchester United in 2023 and will now have to focus his efforts elsewhere.

In a post on X, he wrote: « We stand tall, learn and move forward together. »

Ronaldo and Coman wasted chances to equalise

Al-Nasr will be disappointed by the knockout after playing against 10 men for most of the second half after Al-Ittihad right-back Ahmed Al Julaidan was shown a straight red for a dangerous dive on Ayman Yahya as the pair went up 50-50.

Ronaldo had the best opportunity to equalise, but after being cleared, he opted for a clever, driven finish that ended with a routine save from Al-Ittihad goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic. Replays suggested he may have been ambushed.

Al-Nasr continued to push for an equalizer but those hopes were dashed in stoppage time when Kingsley Coman again had a chance to find the net, only for the former Bayern Munich star to fire over the bar.
