To Erling Haaland agent has downplayed the offers Manchester City the attacker can switch to Barcelona if presidential candidate Victor Font wins Sunday’s election.
Font, who is up against Joan Laporta, has suggested he has held talks with City and the player’s camp to try and secure a priority deal – basically, first comments on the Norwegian should he decide to leave the Etihad in the coming years.
Haaland signed a nine-and-a-half-year deal with City in January last year and appears to be in no rush to move on.
And his agent Rafaela Pimenta poured cold water on any potential deal, telling El Chringuito de Jugones: « We have great respect and admiration for Barcelona, but there has been no contact – with Erling Haaland or Barcelona’s management – about potential transfer targets.
Also, since the player renewed his contract a few months ago, he is very happy at Manchester City.
« Everything is going very well for him and there is really nothing to discuss about a transfer when everything is so good at City. »
Anything is possible – Font remains optimistic about the Haaland deal
Font appeared to back off slightly when told of Pimenta’s remarks, but still stated that Haaland could end up at Camp Nou in the future.
He told Mundo Deportivo: « In the short term, he cannot sign because he renewed a very long-term contract last year. But personally, I am convinced that these 10-year contracts are rarely fulfilled.
« Anything is possible and we have to be prepared so that a player with such talent, who said he likes Spain and said last year that he loves Camp Nou, can make a move. »
Haaland’s financial demands would scuttle any deal in the near future. Although Barca have balanced their books following their much-publicized financial worries, they are still unable to match the reported £500,000-a-week Haaland earns at City.
Haaland is enjoying another productive season for Pep Guardiola’s side. He has scored 22 goals in the Premier League and another seven in the Champions League.
He joined City from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022 and helped the club to two Premier League titles and the Champions League crown in 2023.
