Flamengo won the Copa Libertadores after a slick all-Brazilian final to clinch a record fourth triumph

Flamengo won the 2025 Copa Libertadores after a slick all-Brazilian final against Palmeiras in Peru, becoming the first club from the country to lift the trophy four times.

ex Manchester City defender Danilo scored the only goal of the match after 67 minutes; The 34-year-old headed home from Giorgian de Arrascaeta’s corner to give Flamengo a third South American crown in six years and avenge the defeat suffered by Palmeiras in 2021.

Brazilian clubs have dominated the competition in recent years, winning all but one of the last nine editions. Five of the last seven finals have been all-Brazilian, with Palmeiras and Flamengo winning the coveted prize five times between them in that time.

This year’s clash, between Serie A’s top two clubs, was largely a tense affair at the Estadio Monumental ‘U’ in Lima, with few clear chances carved out by either side throughout.

under ex-Chelsea and Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis, Flamengo scored just 13 goals in the tournament, but their success was built on a weak defense, conceding just five times en route to the title.

Luis becomes only the ninth man to win the competition as both a player and coach, having won the trophy twice with Flamengo in 2019 and 2022.
