‘Given Anupam a Reality Check’: Netizens Back Shark Tank India 4’s ‘Exploitation’ of Namita Thapar Rosha Founders

Namita Thapar, CEO of Emcure Pharmaceuticals is in the news for inviting her sharks during the recent episode of ‘Shark Tank India India Season 4. During the set of wireless lamps Brand Rosha, the founders introduced the country’s first portable and rechargeable lighting brand.

The founders sought an investment of 60 lakhs in return for 1% equity, valuing the company at 60 crores. The deal was done with 60 lakhs at 4% equity and 1.5% royalty till 90 lakhs is raised.

Boat Lifestyle CMO Aman Gupta and Lenskart founder Peyush Bansal complemented the founders-Kawardeep Singh, Gaurav Tikiya and Shivam Diwani for designing the lamps and experimented with the products.

Bansal even asked if the lamps are imported, to which Kawardeep said that few of their designs are imported when starting the business. Shivam also shared how the boat lifestyle CMO’s mother spotted his table lamp in Goa and ordered it and also claimed that Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan brought several lamps in the same model.

After hearing the basics of the business, Anupam made an offer of 60 lakhs with 3% equity and a royalty of 1.5% of sales until he makes 1.5x the amount. Ritesh joined Anupam to hike the value to 4%, causing Namita to back out of the deal.

Anupam, Aman and Ritesh offered 60 lakh 10 percent equity and 2 percent equity respectively. Thapar then said, « This is exploitation. » To this, Anupam told Thapar that exploitation is when one sits in a show and does not give an offer.

Reddit users supported Namita for calling out Anupam for blatant abuse by the founders. « Respecting Namita for supporting the founders and giving Anupam a reality check on the abuse, » the user said.
