I had a fun riding week this week. Tuesday I went « around the tanks » and went out to the Casa Loma Road with my group, a favorite local ride. It was on my upright, wearing my SI and SI belt to bear it well. I still do well for longer periods of time several times a week of upright. I also managed to walk much further without problems. I’m glad to visit my brother in Phoenix or another time I travel, I like to walk a lot when cycling is not so comfortable on an option.
My other rides and training on the upper body all went well, except for Wednesday, when I became a little too concerned about my heart rate during the ride. It turns out that I accidentally took an extra dose of Metoprolol at night, before which I maintained my heart rate more than the range I was shooting. What I like most is a nice fast -paced ride, which usually works until an average heart rate near 110 for me. I decided to concentrate on doing a lot more of them and cut down on a heavy trip a week. This is very similar to the basic training technique of Dr Phil MafetonAlso known as MAF Method (for maximum aerobic function). If I followed this to the letter, I actually have to miss a hard day, but I want to maintain the power and speed I already have while I « build the base » on the rest of the days. I did Maf Time Trial on Friday, which sees how quickly you can go on a course while staying at your target maximum heart rate, 110 for me. I drove a A local course of just under 7 mileswhich took 31 minutes 45 seconds (no electrical assistance). The idea is to repeat this once a month, and if my aerobic capacity has improved time, it should continue to decrease. It will be interesting to see how this turns out to be, but so far I can say that this is a very enjoyable way of training.
