After the United States said that the trade agreement with India would take time, New Delhi officially informed the World Trade Organization (WTO) on May 12 of its plan to suspend the grant of American goods, worth $ 1.91 billion.
Moving is the answer to Washington’s Aluminum and Steel import protection for the continuation of the tariffs that India says that it has violated global trade rules and damages its export.
Kanta signs follow the trade negotiations that had previously proven to pace. Both parties had announced progress, but recent comments in the United States have raised doubts about the pace and outcome of the discussions.
India also rejected President Trump’s demand to convey a ceasefire with Pakistan. According to the opinion analysts, the mistrust between two government has deepened.
In its application by the WTO, India accused the non -compliance of the United States in the protection rules, bypassing the required negotiations, and causing financial injuries to India’s exports.
« The proposed suspension of access agreements or other obligations will take place in the form of increasing tariffs from selected products from the United States, » the announcement said.
If not resolved, the counter -measures will take effect within 30 days. India has left open the opportunity to check the list of targeted US products and tariffs, indicating a measured but fixed approach.
India estimates that US dimensions affect $ 7.6 billion in its aluminum, steel and derivative exports, causing losses of $ 1.91 billion.
This reflects the actions of the European Union and Canada, which responded to the Trump administration’s March tariffs from steel and aluminum by setting counter -procedures for US goods.
India claims that the US measures are at odds with the tariffs and the general agreement (GATT) 1994 and the WTO protection agreement, and says that it will continue to suspend the concessions until the reconciliation solution has been reached.
