India to launch a new domain name for digital fraud banks

The Central Bank of India has introduced an exceptional domain « .bank.in » for banks since April 2025 as part of efforts to combat increasing digital payments and strengthen the trust in online banking services.

The Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) will serve as an exclusive registrar for the new domain, according to a message from the Reserve Bank of India on Wednesday. The central bank plans to deploy a separate domain « Fin.in » for non -bank financial institutions.

« Increased cases of fraud in digital payments are considerable concern, » said RBI governor Sanja Malchotra, adding that the new domain system aims to reduce threats to cybersecurity and malicious activities such as Phishing. This move comes when India is struggling with a digital deception and predation applications.

The Central Bank said it would issue detailed guidance to banks separately for the new initiative, which is intended to help users distinguish legal bank websites from fraudulent.
