Kane urges Bayern to ‘do the same next week’ as Arbeloa says Neuer is ‘MVP’

Harry Kane insisted Bayern Munich to repeat the same performance in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals next week after a win Real Madrid 2-1 at the Bernabeu.

Bayern took a slender lead back at the Allianz Arena after making a move a pulsating quarter-final first leg in which Kane scored the decisive goal.

The England striker doubled their lead 20 seconds into the second half following Luis Diaz’s opener and dominated much of the match, but Real Madrid rallied and pulled a goal back through Kylian Mbappe to keep the tie very much alive.

And while the visitors were the better side for much of the game, Manuel Neuer had to make a huge contribution in the game, making nine saves to deny the hosts on several occasions.

Kane told TNT Sports: « All the hype around it, coming to Madrid and trying to get a result, it’s always a difficult thing.

« We had some good chances, credit to them, credit to them. We can be really pleased with the win and take it next week.

« We’ve enjoyed some really good times together. Now we’re at the end of the season. The more you play and train together, the more the feelings get stronger.

“We always feel dangerous, we always feel like we can score goals for sure.

« We are in a good position, we have to stay focused. Now it’s just a matter of recovering and it will be time next week to try to do the same again. »

Arbeloa: New what MVP

Real Madrid caretaker Alvaro Arbeloa pointed to Neuer’s busy performance – which saw him win the Man of the Match award – to suggest his side performed better tonight and insisted the tie was still all there was to play for.
