Everton ‘not ready’ for the new Premier League season, says Moyes

Mixed emotions for Moyes after Leeds draw

Everton remain winless against newly promoted sides in the Premier League this season

Everton manager David Moyes praised striker Tierno Barry after he earned a deserved point against Leeds with a fourth goal in five Premier League games.

Everton had a poor first half on Monday night and fell behind to a James Justine goal.

But Moyes changed the formation at the break and his side dominated the second half and took a point when Barry struck at the near post.

Moyes said: « If you’re a centre-forward you’ve got to score goals and he (Barry) wasn’t doing that at the start. He’s getting better and better.

« He is training well and he is used to scoring goals. We need to create more chances and we are still trying to get our attacking players back.

« I’m really happy with the response. I have a really strong group that demands each other.

« We’ve moved to a new stadium and it’s never easy when you move. It takes a bit of time. We’ve started here really well so hopefully we can come back and keep the good form away. »

Leeds were outstanding in the first half and came close to doubling their advantage when former Everton player Dominic Calvert-Lewin hit the post.

But an away point saw Leeds move six points clear of safety to the delight of boss Daniel Farke.

He said: « Overall it’s a good result for us. It’s tough to go, especially without a few key players, and to get a point is a good result for us. »

« We were a bit unlucky that because of our dominance and the chances we created in the first half, we didn’t get the second goal. The second half it was clear that at some point Everton were going to turn up and have some chances.

« We didn’t concede too many chances, it felt like even at that point we were the better side. There wasn’t much missing at all to win this game. »
