Napoli moved level at the top of a tense Serie A

Napoli beat Roma 1-0 to go level on points with AC Milan at the top of a very tight Serie A table.

David Neres’ goal was the difference for the defending champions against Roma, who are just a point off the top of fourth.

Milan, who beat Lazio 1-0 on Saturday, are 28 points ahead of Napoli on goal difference, with Roma a point behind in fourth place behind third-placed Inter Milan.

The first half was frantic end-to-end play and just when the hosts looked like they would be in control, a quick Napoli counter saw Neres score the opener nine minutes before the break.

Roma huffed and puffed throughout the second half but never troubled Napoli’s guard and Antonio Conte’s side claimed back-to-back wins in the title race with little margin for error.

Lautaro Martinez scored twice in the second half Inter Milan which 2-0 promoted Pisa.

Inter lost the derby to Milan last weekend and were beaten by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday, but came back with two late goals to win.

Lens moved to the top of the French league with a 2-1 win over Angers the day after Paris Saint-Germain got it wrong.

Recalled French winger Florian Tovin scored in each half for Lance, who now have a one-point lead over PSG.

Marseille missed the chance to overtake PSG at the top after conceding a stoppage-time goal in a 2-2 home draw with Toulouse on Saturday.
