Onnit Instant Melatonin Spray makes bedtime a breeze

I always came close taking melatonin supplements with skepticism. They seem to help from time to time, but your brain is already producing melatonin. Also, I’m not a fan of the sickly sweet pills, gummies, and other forms of melatonin I’ve come across. No one wants a bad taste in their mouth when they are supposed to be drifting off to sleep.

This is where Onnit’s Instant Melatonin Spray comes in. Fellow WIRED reviewer Molly Higgins tried it first and reported positively. This spray comes in two flavors, lavender and mint, and is sweetened with stevia. While I wouldn’t consider it a gourmet flavor, I appreciate that it leans more towards herbal components known for sleep and relaxation.

Keep in mind that melatonin is meant to be a sleep aid, not a cure-all. That being said, one serving of this spray contains 3 milligrams of melatonin, which takes about six pumps to disperse. While 3 milligrams may not seem like a lot to really jumpstart your circadian rhythm, it’s actually the perfect dose to jumpstart your brain’s relaxation process. Some people can do more (but don’t go over 10 milligrams!), some less, but based on what the experts have told me, this is the preferred amount.

A few reminders about any supplement: check with your doctor if and when you want to include anything, including melatonin, in your nighttime regimen. Your healthcare provider can help confirm that you are not taking any medications where adding a sleep aid or supplement would not be as effective.
