Professor of cybersecurity disappeared against the background of searching for FBI. His family is “decided to fight”

The wife of the professor of data privacy, Xiaofeng Wang, who was fired from her work at the University of Indiana, Bloomington (IU) on the same day the couple’s houses were searched by the Federal Bureau of Investigation last month, said that her family had been directed by the US and Violations. «

« Our family is decided to fight not only for themselves, but also for the broader research community that will be influenced if this type of claim remains undeniably, » said Nianley Ma.

This is the first time MA spoke publicly, as the FBI searches happened at the end of March. She appeared in Webinar, hosted by the Asian American Scientist Forum (AASF), a non -profit group created in early 2021 to advocate for the rights and recognition of Asian American scientists. Ma worked as a library analyst at the university before she was also sharply fired from IU days before the FBI searches two of the couple’s homes, The Indiana Daily Student reported.

« I just can’t understand how the university we have devoted to two decades of our lives to, we could treat us, without even telling us why or going through a proper process, especially for my husband, » Ma said. « I lost weight and had difficulty sleeping. I feel trapped in a constant state of anxiety and sadness. »

The case of Wang has sparked fears among scientists that a closed program of the Ministry of Justice, called Chinese initiative, is being revived in the new Trump administration. The campaign, which began during President Trump’s first term in service with the stated goal of combating economic espionage, was accused by critics of unleashed researchers and other Asian-immigrants and Asia-American academic communities. Later, DOJ abandoned the program under the Biden administration after losing or withdrawing a number of related cases.

One of the most profits of these was the case with Prof. Mit Gang Chen, who was accused in 2021. According to Chinese initiative, he did not suspected relations with several Chinese institutions in applications for grants. Chen also spoke to the webinar on Monday. The allegations against him were eliminated next year after the disclosures were not required by the Federal Government.

« Nianley’s history is heartbreaking. The images of Nianley’s FBI attack and Professor Xiaopen Wang’s home brings chills in our spikes, » Chen said. « He returns the fear that my family and many others have gone to the initiative for China. Reading the news report on you, one cannot stop asking if the initiative for China has actually been returned, » he said, talking directly to Ma.

Brian Sun, a member of the AASF legal advice, said in the Webinar that at the moment it seems that « there is no evidence that the case of Xiaofeng includes any kind of illegal transfer of technology or something that would mean the type of concerns that led to the foundation of the Chinese initiative. »

US representative Grace me from New York, who gave a major speech to the event, said he was concerned about the efforts of the current US Presidential Administration to restore the initiative for China, which « did nothing to cope significantly about the fears of national security and to be a deep cooling effect on scientific and scientific unscrupulous. «
