Quentin Folliott receives 20-year ban from tennis for match-fixing

French tennis player Quentin Folio was banned from playing for 20 years. Folliott was found to be a « central figure » in a match-fixing scheme in which five others were also suspended.

The news comes from the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), which has been investigating match-fixing for quite some time. Folliot was also hit with a $70,000 fine as well as being ordered to repay $44,000 in « corruption payments ». The 26-year-old was found to be in breach of 27 different areas of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP).

In his career, he was already ranked 488th in singles as of 2022. In effect, his tennis career is already over as far as the ITIA is concerned, as he will not be able to participate until he is 45 years old.

Although the suspension is for 20 years, it was taken into account at the time he was suspended, which was 17 May 2024. As such, he will be allowed to play on 16 May 2044. This is « subject to payment of outstanding fines ».

His suspension prevents him from playing in the following tennis matches organized by:

  • ATP
  • ITF
  • WTA
  • Tennis Australia
  • French Tennis Federation
  • Wimbledon
  • USTA
  • « Any National Association »

He is also prohibited from « teaching or attending » events that involve an ITIA member.

20-year tennis ban for 27 offences

During the hearing, Folliott denied 30 different charges relating to the fixing of 11 tennis matches between 2022 and 2024. The presiding and independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer (AHO), Amani Khalifa, saw 27 charges laid. Folliott was acquitted of three counts of insider dealing, failure to report a corrupt approach and match fixing.

The full hearing has been uploaded to the ITIA website and AHO Khalifa is quoted as saying about Folliot’s actions:

« … a vector for a wider crime syndicate actively recruiting other players and trying to embed corruption deeper into the professional tours. »
