Report, score and goals like Jackson in the stars

Senegal opened theirs African Cup of Nations campaign with a comfortable 3-0 win Botswanawith Nicholas Jackson twice on the scoring sheet.

Senegal dominated possession from the opening exchanges, pinning Botswana deep and creating a steady stream of chances through Sadio Mane, Nicolas Jackson and Ismaila Sarr.

The early pressure showed in the 40th minute when Jackson opened the scoring, finishing calmly from close range after being picked out by Ismail Jacobs.

Botswana struggled to ease the pressure despite defending in numbers and relied heavily on goalkeeper Goitseone Phoko who made several saves to keep the score in check before the break. Senegal went into half-time with a deserved 1-0 lead.

Second half goals sealed the win

The pattern of play remained the same after play resumed, with Senegal patiently in possession and Botswana unable to sustain attacks.

Jackson doubled their lead in the 58th minute, setting up his shot well before finishing low into the corner from Sarr’s cross.

Substitutions allowed Senegal to maintain their intensity and Sheriff Ndiaye added a third late in the game, converting from the center of the box after an assist from Sheikh Sabali to complete a dominant performance.

Botswana threatened sporadically but failed to seriously test Edouard Mendy, while Senegal’s defensive set-up remained largely unchallenged.

The result gives Senegal a strong platform in the group stage and reflects their balance of experience and attacking diversity.

Botswana showed moments of resilience but were eventually beaten on the pitch as Senegal managed a convincing opening victory.
