The full trailer of ‘Obsession’ might just ruin your day

If you’re having a generally good day today without goddamn people screaming at the top of your lungs, loved ones giving you creepy stares for no reason, or laughing so heartily it’s embarrassing, you might want to watch out for the new trailer for Mania. It has all that in it and more, making it very creepy and uncomfortable. And we wouldn’t want to spoil a good thing.

Which, interestingly, is almost exactly the plot of the new film written and directed by Currie Barker. Bear (Michael Johnston) has a not-so-secret crush on his good friend Nikki (Ind Navarrete). And they are really good friends. It’s the kind of friendship that’s likely to survive if Bear is honest about his feelings. But instead, he finds a prank gift called « One Wish Willow » and casually wishes Nicky to love him more than anything in the world. What’s the worst that could happen? Find out in the first full trailer for Mania.

Trust the short quote from a certain website you’re reading right now saying this Mania is « terrifying ». Because it absolutely is. Barker finds a real horror in this situation that is pushed far beyond even the insanity you see in this trailer. And while the trailer teases how badly this wish goes for Bear and Nikki, I’d still say it’s probably only 35% crazy. It gets much, much, much harder.

Mania hit the festival circuit last year, we previewed it then and quickly picked it up from Focus Features, who set it up for a summer release. We really think this is one of those unique, terrifying, disgusting horror movies that is destined for greatness. So if this trailer hasn’t ruined your day, we suggest you save a movie date in about two months.
