The Buckingham Palace has announced Donald Trump’s second state visit to the UK on 17-19. September.

King Charles and Queen Camilla host Trump in Windsor Castle, right outside London, and potentially hostile crowds that make it easier to collect if she had stayed in the Buckingham Palace.

During his visit, the US President does not deal with both parliamentary houses in Parliament, avoiding the possibility of political demonstrations in Westminster. Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan are among those who have shown parliamentary members and peers.

The lower room does not sit during his visit because it is in recess during the United Kingdom’s political party conference period, which means that such an address was not possible. Some workers’ parties and peers had said that Trump should not be invited to speak at Westminster.

Trump will become the first President of the United States to complete two state visits. On his previous trip in 2019, Commons John Bercow’s then speaker made it clear that he would not be welcome to respond to Parliament. Bercow had said that the address was not « automatic right, it is a deserved honor ».

Lord Kim Darroch, the UK Ambassador of Washington Trump, at the time of his last visit, said that the US President’s team did not express him to speak to Parliament for long discussions about arranging the first state’s visit.

The former ambassador said that Trump’s team was warned of the manner of demonstration, and was told about the intention of Buckingham Palace and Downing Street to perform a strict program with limited interaction with the UK citizens.

« They were quite pleased with that, » Darroch told The Financial Times. “They didn’t say he wanted to meet a beloved British audience.

« Last time the White House was careful about the visit. They were always sensitive to confusion or hostile crowds or a low turnout. We were concerned about the protesters with their giant Trump-shaped balloons. »

Trump will take part in the State Celebration at Windsor Castle and have discussions with the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer during the visit, people told the trip. The Buckingham Palace said the first Lady Melania Trump would also participate.

In February, Starmer introduced to Trump to the King, who expanded the state’s visit to the Prime Minister’s meeting with the US President in the White House. Trump’s love for the royal family of the UK is seen as a key diplomatic property in London.

When the couple sat side by side in an oval office, Starmer gave the president a personal invitation, saying « this is truly historic and unprecedented ». Trump said it was « great, great honor », adding « Windsor – it’s really something ».

The US President is also expected to travel to Scotland over the next few weeks, where he has several golf courses, « half a private visit », but his earlier plan for his meeting King Charles has not been realized.

In his letter, the king had suggested to Trump that he and the president could meet at the Balmoral or Dumfries house in Scotland first before a much larger visit to the state.

However, royal officials have said that there are logistical challenges around the informal visit, which have a complexity in the King and Trump diaries.

The White House did not immediately respond to the request for comment.
