Xabi Alonso insists Real Madrid leave the club’s World Cup as a « better team » although PSG is ignited

Xabi Alonso is convinced that Real Madrid has improved as a team during the club’s World Cup and insists that they will learn from last night’s humble 4-0 from Paris Saint-Germain.

Madrid was torn apart by European semifinals champions, with the game effectively done after 24 minutes with PSG three goals up, aided by some fearful protection from the Spanish side.

Alonso’s country was out of the stream, overtaken and overhanging, leaving Alonso with a lot to think before its first full season.

We leave as a better team – Luis Enrique

The former Leverkusen boss said, « More than the result, he shows a margin that we need to improve.

« The game is the end of this season. We leave as a better team. It is hard to explain. I am convinced that it will help us get better next season.

« This championship told me many things. From what we are and what we need to improve. I go with an idea for what we will see. This is the last game of 2024-25. In August, we will start 2025-26, which will be different. I leave with clear ideas. »

Kylian Mbape suffered an unhappy first meeting with his former club with the captain of France and star of star Vinicius -Jr., who came for criticism that he did not follow until PSG took ahead.

Asked about the couple afterwards, Alonso refused to separate anyone for individual criticism.

He added: « I’m talking about the team today, at certain times, sometimes it is a good idea to see the mistakes because they help you for the future. If we repeat the same mistake over and over, we will not be intelligent. »

Alonso calls for peace

The club’s World Cup was Alonso’s first task with Madrid as a coach and he asked for patience from fans and media.

« This is the first defeat, » he said. « But the bad news for me is that we will lose more times.

« We tried to build a team that played as a unit. The club’s world cup was very interesting, demanding. We got there. We got to the penultimate scene. »

PSG will face Chelsea at the final on Sunday as they look to add the finishing touch to a remarkable season. Louis Enrique’s country has won the internal double and the Champions League and will solidify its status on the best country in the world with a win in New York over the weekend.
