I’m still chasing my timed distance challenge from my last post, at a decent length each day. As of July 25th, I’ve driven 813 miles (1309 km), so I’m six days away from reaching 1000. Before I get mad about it, the world leader in the 70-74 age group challenge has covered 2390 miles (3850 km) so far, and I’m 235th in my age group. Still, it’s going to be a PR of a lifetime for a month’s worth of mileage, and I’m having fun chasing it.
Last Sunday I did a long ride of 84 km in 3 hours 15 minutes, mostly in the mountains from NW to SW of Morgan Hill.
Approaching Uvas Road from Oak Glen AveNorth on Uvas to Casa Loma AveHeading to Casa Loma with horse ranch on leftThe entrance to Casa Loma’s Rancho Canada Del Oro Open SpaceBack on the Uvas and southPassing the Croy Rd bend I lived onPassing Pico Ranch on the leftI’m glad the driver of this septic tank pump alerted me that he was passing by. I’d rather my obituary didn’t include « run over by a poop truck »Passing Uvas DamZooming down the big hill from Uvas DamI now continue south on Watsonville Road, passing Chictactic-Adams ParkI crossed Burchell Road, a quiet country road, and was approaching the much busier Hecker Pass Highway that leads to Watsonville. Luckily there is a decent shoulder on the part I was traveling. We pass some vineyards on the Hecker Pass HighwayThe highway begins the climb to the pass here, but the shoulder ends. The party’s over, it’s time to turn aroundJust turned left on Watsonville Road off the Hecker Pass Freeway and north againI turned east from Watsonville on Day Road on my way home. That’s my right foot at the top of the pedal stroke sneaking into the frame
