Walt Disney returns as a surreal animatrons for the 70th anniversary of Disneyland

As of this week, Walt Disney returns to his original magical kingdom, with little help from magical creators in Imagineering.

Through the audio-animation technology of Walt Disney, introduced when Disneyland opened 70 years ago, the evolution of the Robots show has moved from static positioning with some movements, as is the first time you can see the singing birds in the enchanted Tiki Room, to the Uncle Walt’s roaming animaton. Located in the opera on the main street, (m) the animatronics is the jewel of the crown of Walt Disney – a magical life Show, where he, along with the help of Disney CEO, Bob Iger as a narrator of the program, must sit and stand in front and downtown to share his story in his words.

The experience begins with the introduction of Iger for the mythical man who disappeared behind the ubiquitous name in front of so many classic films and memories of the theme park. We get a little about his upbringing in his words about the movie and an insight into how he fed his creativity, to animate his path from the life of the farm and pave his path to Hollywood with the help of a Mickey Mouse. When he reaches how his daughters influenced him to create a space where families can have fun in the form of Disneyland and how this springboard in an even bigger dream, the curtain rises and you are in the recreation of the Walt office. There he sits at his desk and continues to refine the pretty captive audience with more anecdotes about what he does for the company, or at least what he did after reaching the status of Uncle Walt, the kind person on television presenting, presenting, presenting, presenting The wonderful world of DisneyOr the person who would walk around the park – and this is extremely surreal. Even when someone who was wondering what it would be like to come across Walt in the park, I can certainly describe it as strange, but still touching at the same time.

There is no avoidance of Westworld Comparisons, but the intention is not to make it an attraction that is conscious of the world that the true Walt Disney has built. It is still just an experiment to invoke the spirit of the man himself in his iconic gray suit and surrounded by the busy work on his desk. Representatives of the hand talked about the inspiration to return Walt for the 70th anniversary of Disneyland.

Tom Fitzgerald, Imagineer and senior creativity in the project to return Walt to his home park, shared: « We are most excited to share this new version of Walt Disney’s history with our guests.

« So we really wanted to bring this connection to what we were feeling today with Walt in front of an audience. Not only that, but that its story is so appropriate. I think when you see the movie, before you see the figure, the life lessons that he learns are really incredible and important. Follow your dream.

Disney was one of the last contemporary influential global figures to make something of yourself from the idea that you can pull yourself off Bootstraps before everything is done except fabulous in most places. I myself believed in his story. Yes, the real Walt Disney was a complicated man, progressive for his time, but he is still not without criticism, who have been questioned over the years after his passing in 1966 with the increase of the Disney Empire. Here we meet with him as an idealized figure in the form of the robot of the most breed breakthrough. He even quotes his well -worn affirmation to « continue to go forward », a mantra that translated me through school and made me feel fulfilled, as the main stages overcome the difficult times as a writer more and more. Seeing him to deliver him, he left me verklempt; This is something I had to hear today. Nevertheless, I was a little scared of the attempt to be in the presence of a robot, programmed to stand up and walk until he said these words, supplemented by a moment in his eyes.

Fitzgerald reminded the invited audience that the human animatron is not necessarily incredibly new to the imagination. « We made every president and made movie stars, » he said, citing Harrison Ford’s motionless likeness as Indiana Jones, as well as for sitting presidents.

« But when you say, » I want to make an animatronic figure of Walt Disney, « which has a huge responsibility. Probably as much as Walt felt like that Abraham Lincoln came to life – to come to life for the World Fair in New York in 1964. So, it became a kind we call, which is a moon for our team, which we have to say, how can we progress with the form of art and technology to create a real faithful figure of Walt. The progress we have been making in recent years, the technology has progressed to the point where we could do it true. «

He shared that the specificity of eye flashing is deliberate. « We have (presentation) groups that say, » Let me understand this.  » And they realized that the reason we get this a little (flashing) of the eye is because (from) what is called corneal convexity. In addition, behind the muscular structure there is a more corrective animation of the movement of the face extracted from Walt’s archival footage.

It’s really important and, dare to say, fun? But of course we have to put on our Ian Malcolm glasses and think that while we knew it was something Disney could do, should they have?

« I think because of those lunar shots and all the work that has been done, we really believe that this is the most narrow productivity of the audio animatronics we have ever done. This is really interesting because in many cases you present numbers that people have never seen.

« But this is a person we are all very familiar with. If you confuse him, so it is: » No, this is not how Walt would do that. He would move his hand like that; He has already returned it here. « And so it is important to spend so much time by focusing on Walt’s manners and appearance to make sure you make it as accurate as possible, because we all love Walt Disney, and we want to make sure this is something that takes care of it great.

Seeing a man’s dream to become the first step of a sinister, realistic animatron is certainly something. He talks about where his mind may have started things with a mouse, but this has led to an impossible place where a mouse of another kind can be what activates it.

Walt Disney – a magical life It opens on July 17 in Disneyland.
