SpaceX’s Starlink Internet service underwent a global interruption on Thursday, which lasted more than two hours. Connection issues began around 3:20 pm, based on DownDetector. Spacex did not recognize the interruption until 16:05 ET, by posting a Starlink X account. The service began to return for some around 5:30 pm ET, and Michael Nicolls, Vice President of Starlink, said the supplier « recovered mostly » at 18:23 ET.
Users in the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom and Asia report R/Starlink problems, the Reddit Reddit page and SpaceX even acknowledged the interruption of the Starlink website. The company has not shared the number of people who have actually been affected, but can be in the millions – since the latest Starlink network update, the service has over six million active customers worldwide.
The initial message that SpaceX is working on correction did not explain what reason for the interruption or what is being done to recover the service. « Starlink is currently in a network interruption and we are actively implementing a solution, » X Post said. « We appreciate your patience, we will share an update once this problem is resolved. »

By announcing the restoration of the service, Nicolls explained that the interruption was due to « failure of key internal software services that manage the main network » rather than some problem with the satellite constellation of SpaceX or other hardware problems. Nicolls added that Starlink would « eradicate this problem completely and will make sure that it does not reappear.

Starlink is designed to be accessible when traditional service providers cannot reach, making it a common option for VAN LIFERS and anyone who lives without a traditional internet infrastructure. SpaceX also partners with companies like T-Mobile to use Starlink to expand the connectivity of the smartphone beyond traditional cellular networks. It is not clear how the Starlink service of T-Mobile was influenced by the interruption.
