From ‘sloppy bachelors’ to viral stars: Noida flatmates redeem themselves with Diwali glow

Two Noida flatmates who became the faces of ‘boy Diwali energy’ for their dim festive decorations have now embraced the spirit of the season – transforming their once dim balcony into a dazzling light show.

Kulwant Singh and his flatmate Yageshwar, residents of an apartment building in Noida, went viral earlier this week after local vlogger Karun Lakshya (@yourmaddyrider) posted a video of their balcony lit by just a single green string amid brightly glowing apartments.

Clip, title “The story of a lazy man during Diwali preparation” (« The story of a lazy man preparing for Diwali »), quickly went viral on Instagram and X, garnering over 23 million views and turning the duo into internet sensations overnight.

Random fame

In the video, Maddy can be heard laughing as she zooms onto the dim balcony joking, « Keh raha hai, bhai main Nahi laga raha hai. Bhaad mein jaaye. » (« The homeowner must have said, ‘I’m not doing it. Go to hell.' »)

Social media users quickly piled on the jokes. Some called the single light thread « minimalism in its purest form » while others called it « the true spirit of broke bachelors during Diwali ».

Meeting

Maddy wanted to meet the men behind the virus balcony, but later tracked down the apartment and met Kulwant and Yageshwar. They explained that their balcony was full of plants, leaving little room for decoration. Yageshwar admitted that he had planned the decor more elaborately, but changed his mind after the video went viral. Laugh, Maddy teased, « I’ll be a bachelor before I know her. » (« I knew bachelors must live here. »)

Before leaving, Kulwant promised to redeem their reputation – a promise he soon kept.

The Great Witch Glow-Up

In a follow-up video that quickly went viral again, a neighbor filmed Kulwant stringing up several rows of yellow fairy lights, eventually lighting up the infamous balcony. « Ab iss bande ko akal aayi hai, » (« Now this man has seen sense »), a neighbor joked in the background.

The balcony, once mocked for its strictness, now glowed brightly – a perfect Diwali makeover, hailed by social media users as the ‘healthiest ending to the trolling saga’.

Trolling that started lightly ended with laughter, community and a balcony that finally matched the festive mood of the neighbors.
