Among the teams in action, Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart were hoping to stay in the race behind runaway German leaders Bayern Munich.

Roma were also hoping to beat beleaguered Juventus and draw level with Italian leaders and reigning champions Napoli.

Osasuna vs Celta Vigo: winner Duran

Celta Vigo moved level on points with Osasuna and a point above the relegation zone with a see-saw 3-2 away win.

Ferran Jutgla put Celta ahead from the edge of the box, but Ante Budimir converted a penalty and fired in a corner to give the hosts a 2-1 lead at the break.

Jutgla took a corner to equalize before Budimir’s spot-kick hit the post. Pablo Duran scored the winning goal three minutes from time, beating goalkeeper Sergio Herrera.

Rayo Vallecano vs Alaves: joy from Alemao

Brazilian striker Alemao scored the only goal of the game in the 91st minute to lift Rayo Vallecano to seventh place with their fourth win of the season.

In a battle full of chances, substitute Isi Palazon shot against the post in the second half before Alemao pounced on Pep Chavarria’s cross.

« I wanted this moment so much and it came, » Alemao said after his first major league goal. « It feels amazing. »

Mallorca v Levante: On points

Pablo Maffeo headed in from outside the box with 11 minutes remaining to give Mallorca a 1-1 draw at home to Levante, who took the lead when Etta Eyong pounced in the box to score in the 22nd minute.

Jose Luis Morales could have sealed victory for Levante in second-half stoppage time but was denied from close range by an excellent save from Leo Roman.

Levante are unbeaten in four away games and join Mallorca in being above the relegation zone on goal difference.

Lazio vs Juventus: Major bags winner

Toma Basic took advantage of a poor back pass from Jonathan David to score the winner in the ninth minute as Lazio beat Juventus 1-0 to go 10th, a point behind their opponents.

Juve have lost their last three games in all competitions, eight without a win and failed to score in more than six and a half hours of football, increasing the pressure on manager Igor Tudor.

« We get to the box and then we don’t put the ball in the net, » Tudor told DAZN Italia, via Gianluca Di Marzio.

« We also keep telling ourselves ‘don’t make mistakes’ but there is always a mistake and we lose games. We feel terrible but we have to stick together.

« I don’t care about my future. I have to keep a clear head and be aware of the present. »

Sassuolo vs Roma: Dybala is decisive

Paulo Dybala scored his first Serie A goal of the season in the 16th minute to send Roma level with the reigning champions.

Dybala converted after taking a shot at Brian Cristante, who was parried away from the Argentinian forward by goalkeeper Arijanet Muric.

Roma have won all four of their away games this season and ended a two-game losing streak in all competitions with the win, leaving Sassuolo in 13th.

Torino v Genoa: Maripan scores late

Guillermo Maripan’s 90th-minute half-volley earned 12th-placed Torino a 2-1 comeback win against bottom-placed Genoa.

Poor defending accounted for the first two goals, with Morten Thorsby striking from close range in the eighth minute for the visitors

Stefano Sabelli’s own goal in the 63rd minute started the turnaround. Genoa are two points from safety.

Verona vs Cagliari: Welcome back to the games

Fourth-bottom Verona are still looking for their first win of the season after taking a two-goal lead into a 2-2 draw with 14th-placed Cagliari.

Roberto Gagliardini headed the hosts in front and Swat Serdar hit the crossbar for Cagliari before Gift Orban came on as part of a counter-attack in the 59th minute.

Riyad Idrissi’s steady strike halved the deficit 13 minutes from time and Mattia Felici scored a stylish 92nd-minute equalizer after a storming run.

Fiorentina v Bologna: Keane’s heroic penalty save

Fiorentina are winless and in the relegation zone but salvaged a point through Albert Gudmondsson’s second-half penalty and Moise Kean’s 94th-minute penalty to earn a 2-2 draw against Bologna.

Santiago Castro’s superb volley gave Bologna a first-half opener and Niccolò Cambiaghi scored from close range seven minutes after the break for the visitors, who had Emil Holm sent off for a second yellow card seven minutes from time.

The fifth red-blue are unbeaten in six games in Serie A.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Freiburg: Home team triumph

Fifth-placed Leverkusen are four points clear of sixth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt and seven behind Bayern after a 2-0 win at 11th-placed Freiburg and centre-back Philipp Lienhart was sent off for a second booking in the 75th minute.

Ernest Poku scored a superb strike in the 22nd minute from distance, while Edmond Tapsoba headed home the second from Aleix Garcia’s cross in the 52nd minute.

Leverkusen are now unbeaten in seven domestic matches and have won their last three, bouncing back from a 7-2 home defeat by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Stuttgart vs Mainz: Undav is back

Stuttgart are a point above third-placed Leverkusen after claiming a fifth straight league win with a 2-1 victory over 16th-placed Mainz.

Nadiem Amiri gave Mainz confidence of avoiding a fourth straight defeat in the top flight by converting a penalty in the 41st minute, but Chris Furich’s spectacular strike in first-half added time restored parity.

Making his first start since August through injury, ex-Brighton and Hove Albion striker Denise Undav latched on to goalkeeper Alexander Nubel’s pass to score the winning goal in the 80th minute.

Lille vs Metz: LOSC cruise

Felix Correa scored in both halves of a 6-1 win over Metz that moved Lille three points behind leaders PSG in fifth.

Hamza Igamane, Romain Perot, Benjamin Andre and Haakon Haraldsson also scored, as did Ibou Sane in the 95th minute for the away side.

Winless Metz are the only side not to have recorded at least two wins in Ligue 1 this season and are six points from safety with a significant goal deficit.

Lyon vs Strasbourg: Moreira’s magic

Fourth-placed Lyon are a point above Lille after coming from behind to win 2-1 against seventh-placed Strasbourg.

Joaquin Panicelli gave the visitors the lead in the 25th minute, but Ismael Doucourt’s own goal drew OL level six minutes later.

Doucourt was shown a straight red card for going on before Afonso Moreira scored the decisive goal in the 91st minute.

Angers vs Lorient: Hosts end drought

Angers are two points above the relegation zone after ending a seven-game winless streak with a 2-0 win over Lorient.

Prosper Peter broke the deadlock in the 16th minute and Siddiqui Sheriff sealed the deal in the 59th minute, leaving Lorient with one point from five away games this season.

Les Merlus dominated possession and had 13 of the 20 tries between the teams but are a point above the bottom two.

Auxerre vs Havre: Toure wins points

Only Metz have a worse record than Auxerre’s total of six defeats after the latter side lost 1-0 at Le Havre, who are two points above them.

Abdoulaye Toure’s 47th-minute winner gave the visitors their second win of the season and their first away from home.

Le Havre also ended their five-match winless wait as Le Club Doyen bounced back from a 6-2 loss in Marseille eight days earlier.

Rennes vs Nice: Diop, Klaus score

Nice have won back-to-back league wins and are unbeaten in four in the top division after a 2-1 win against 10th-placed Rennes.

Sofiane Diop and Jonathan Klaus gave the hosts a 2-0 half-time lead before 19-year-old Moroccan defender Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal replied.

While Nice are eighth, Rennes’ six-game unbeaten run – five of which were draws – has ended, although Habib Beye’s side have had eight of their 11 attempts.
