Mohamed Salah hit out and said he was ‘thrown under the bus’ by Liverpool and Arne Slott

Mohamed Salah claims he was « thrown under the bus » by Liverpool and says he has no relationship with boss Arne Slott.

Salah failed to come off the bench as Liverpool fell short of victory over Leeds tonight, Ao Tanaka scored a stoppage-time equalizer to give the hosts a point in a pulsating 3-3 tie.

Hugo Ekitike started and Alexandre Issac came on as a late substitute, but Salah – a two-time Premier League champion with the Reds – did not feature.

The Egypt international said afterwards: « I don’t know what to say. It’s funny but I couldn’t believe it. It’s a really disappointing result for us as a team because we expect to win a game like this. »

Asked to explain what he couldn’t believe, Salah added: « To sit on the bench for 90 minutes. It’s the third time I’ve been on the bench, I think the first time in my career.

« I’m very, very disappointed to be honest. I’ve done so much for this club over the years and especially last season.

« Now I’m sitting on the bench and I don’t know why. It seems like the club threw me under the bus. That’s how I feel. I think it’s very clear that someone wanted to take all the blame.

« I got a lot of promises in the summer and I’ve been on the bench for three games so far, so I can’t say they’ve kept the promise. »

We are not related – Salah on Slot

Salah signed a new two-year deal in the summer after a brilliant 2024/25 season, Slott’s first at the club, but says his relationship with the Dutchman is not what it used to be.

« I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager and suddenly we don’t have any, » said the former Roma and Chelsea striker.

« I don’t know why, but it seems to me, as I see it, that someone does not want me at the club.

« I always support him for this club. My kids will always support him. I love the club so much that I always will. I called my mum yesterday – you didn’t know if I was going to start or not, but I did. »

I don’t know what will happen – Salah

Liverpool host Brighton next weekend, after which Salah is set to join Egypt’s squad for African Cup of Nations.

And he even suggested that this could be his last appearance for the club.

He said: « I told them (my family) yesterday, come to the Brighton game. I don’t know if I’ll play or not, but I’ll enjoy myself.

« In my head, I’m going to enjoy this game because I don’t know what’s going to happen now.

« I will be at Anfield to say goodbye to the fans and go to the African Cup of Nations. I don’t know what will happen when I’m there. »

« I’m not the problem »

Salah is beginning to tire of suggestions that he is a « problem ».

« It’s not acceptable to me, » he said. « I don’t know why this is happening to me. I don’t understand it. I think if it was somewhere else, every club would protect their player.

« What I see now is like throwing Mo under the bus because he’s the problem in the team now. But I don’t think I’m the problem. I’ve done so much for this club.

« The respect I want to get. I don’t have to fight every day for my position because I’ve earned it. I’m not greater than anyone, but I’ve earned my position. That’s football. It is what it is.

« Tomorrow (Jamie) Carragher will go through again and again and that’s good. »
