Line-ups confirmed for Premier League clash

Chelsea will seek to maintain pressure on Premier League top four when they welcome Newcastle to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The Blues are three points behind Aston Villa in fourth and fourth Manchester United in third place and have a better goal difference than both.

The hosts have not been beaten by Newcastle at home for nearly 15 years – the last time since a stunning Papiss Cisse brace gave a side then managed by Alan Pardew a 2-0 win in May 2012.

The Magpies are 12th, nine points behind Chelsea. Their most realistic hope of European qualification – unless they win the Champions League, that is – is finishing in the top eight to secure a place in the Europa League or Conference League.

However, those places depend on who wins the FA Cup and the potential prize of that fifth place in the Champions League.

The two sides had contrasting fortunes in midweek as the Magpies were denied a famous Champions League victory over Barcelona by Lamine Yamal’s 96th-minute penalty – the scoreline 1-1, leaving it all to play for the second leg of the last 16 second leg.

The following day, Chelsea endured a difficult night at the Parc des Princes as Liam Rosenier’s men lost 5-2 at holders Paris Saint-Germain, leaving them with a mountain to climb in the second leg next week.
