Eventful week – BionicOldGuy

As I mentioned in my last post, last Thursday I went with some friends to my bike club to mark the route of the Tierra Bella club bike ride that took place on Sunday. Unfortunately it rained quite heavily before Sunday and washed away a lot of the markers. We posted a warning to riders to bring a printout of the cue sheet or load GPS of the route on their displays, so I don’t think many got lost. 900 signed up for the ride and 600 actually rode on Sunday, which had rain in the morning but was otherwise fine.

I was going to drive, but I got some bad news on Friday. A good friend of many years suffered a massive stroke and was diagnosed with an inoperable bleed on the brain and was in intensive care. We’ve been on call ever since in case his wife, another dear friend, needs us. He died on Tuesday. Doctors believe the cause was head trauma from a recent fall while hiking. Rest in peace dear friend Bob. It certainly puts life into perspective. We should love each other and not fuss over the little things. We don’t know how much time we have left.

I was able to manage a few short weekend rides with my phone always with me just in case. Tuesday morning we knew extended family had arrived to help Carrie, so I went on my group ride. We started in gloomy and cold conditions, at the end of the recent storm.

The skies cleared as we reached the Redwood Retreat Road shown in the next few photos.

We returned at noon on the way to Watsonville.
