Nissan is recalling more than 51,000 Kicks SUVs due to a dashboard display defect

Nissan reminds over 51,000 Kicks SUVs because a software bug could cause the dashboard display to partially or completely black out, potentially preventing drivers from seeing important vehicle information.

The recall applies to 51,598 model years 2025-2026 Nissan Kicks vehicles manufactured between June 24, 2024 and January 9, 2026, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Nissan said a software logic error in the vehicle’s combination meter or instrument cluster could trigger a communication failure between the electronic controls during a cold start. If this happens, the screen may show a partial image, a blue screen, or it may be completely blank.

The defect can block the display of warning lights, indicator lights and other safety-related information on the dashboard, making the vehicles fall short of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 101 requirements for vehicle controls and displays.

« If the display of the combi meter is not able to show safety-related indicators and pointers, the driver may unknowingly operate the vehicle in a dangerous state, which increases risk of collision« , Nissan said in a filing with federal regulators.

Nissan identified seven technical reports and 205 warranty claims related to the problem between October 2024 and April 2026, although the company said it is not aware of any crashes or injuries linked to the defect.

The automaker said it first became aware of the problem after receiving a field report of a 2025 Nissan Kicks that had a blank screen upon startup. Although the technicians were initially unable to reproduce the problem, the vehicle had stored diagnostic trouble codes related to the instrument cluster and communication systems.

In the following months, Nissan and supplier Continental will investigate the matter additional reports with intermittent blank or blue screens. Engineers eventually traced the problem to an integrated circuit malfunction that can disrupt data transmission in the instrument cluster and cause the screen to go dark.

The recall involves one of Nissan’s newer U.S. models, and the automaker continues to grapple with software-related bugs that have become an increasingly common source of vehicle recalls.

To fix the problem, dealers are updating the combination meter software free of charge to owners. The repair is estimated to take about 30 minutes.

Dealer notifications began on May 22nd, while owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed from July 1st. Vehicle owners can contact Nissan Customer Service at 800-647-7261 and reference recall number PMA66.
