Vertical K in a day – BionicOldGuy

Since yesterday was scheduled to be a longer trip and I’m running out of days to meet up with Strava climbing challengedecided to try a 1000m climb a day. Mountain runners call this a « vertical K. » I chose the biggest climb in our area, next to Henry Coe State Park, about 16 miles uphill from East Dunne Ave. The last time I did this lying down was probably over 30 years ago. I had no electric assist for this and climbing the last steep section known as « the wall » required pulling my clipped shoes on the pedals. I succeeded but ended up with a bad shin injury that took a few years to heal. I was hoping to avoid that this time: no lace-up shoes, but electric assistance. I got to the « wall » but the battery was dead. I had to leave enough in reserve to stay home because there was still a bit of a climb on the way back.

So I didn’t make it to Henry Coe, but I did add a few hills on the West Morgan Hill side to get enough climbing. Here’s the ride summary from Strava. I needed 1008m of climbing.
