The courage to listen to the lesson that life teaches you?

The courage to listen to the lesson that life teaches you?

I try to do a few things differently in 2025

Moreover, moving to moments or things that make me uncomfortable.

(I do not want to say « times when I am in physical danger, » of course.)

But I will run more soon to The things my brain tells me, « It’s uncomfortable, I don’t like it, avoid it at all costs. »

The email I am afraid to open. The conversation I am afraid to have. The question I am afraid to ask. The ability to be alone with my thoughts (Yikes).

When I reach for my phone either Netflix or PlayStation controller to avoid boring or uncomfortable or sad or guilty …

I try to build some discipline to pause first.

In order not to avoid, distract or entertain away from what really happens.

Not to zombie or escape, Monty-Phyton style

If I have the courage to sit there and really ask the question: « Why does this make me feel uncomfortable? » Valuable lessons need to be learned.

Bend in the discomfort

The author Pema Chodron exposes the following in her book When things break up:

« We consider the discomfort in any form as bad news.

… Feels like disappointment, embarrassment, annoyance, resentment, anger, jealousy and fear.

Instead of being bad news, these are actually very clear moments that teach us where we restrain yourselfS «

These things can be incredible teachers if we provide space to learn.

But this is a lot of question in 2025:

Thanks to the Internet and our phones and the delivery on the same day, we can spend every minute of every day, hiding from almost every uncomfortable feeling in our lives. We never have to get bored, we should never feel « bad », we should never turn to the elephant in the room.

We can just spend, click, touch or distinguish ourselves to avoid any « bad » feelings.

We can hide from them with endless fun and comfort (even if that prevents us from getting what we really want).

Of course, these bad feelings do not go away – they are still there and the things we avoid will eventually have to cope.

When I try to hide from discomfort, I know I don’t really avoid it. I don’t keep it in boxing.

I’m trapped in the Pandora box with the monsters.

Blaise Pascal, a 17th-century philosopher, said it was best:

« All problems of humanity stem from the inability of man to sit quietly in a room. »

These feelings are trying to teach us!

Many feelings of discomfort scream to teach us something if we can reshape how we feel about them.

As Chodron indicates:

“They are like messengers who show us, with a terrifying clarity, Right where we are stuckS

This moment is the perfect teacher and, lucky for us, this is with us wherever we are. «

Life has a way to make this quiet, uncomfortable feeling, it becomes stronger and stronger until we can turn to it …

But we can save ourselves for a long time if we recognize fear, lean up early and recognize that life is trying to teach us something.

This is my challenge for you this week.

What if …

We Let’s get bored?

We asked, “Am I really Hungry, or just calm down with food? «

We admitted that we were frightened or worried or nervous and then asked (with compassionate curiosity) what was behind the feeling?

Life is trying to teach us lessons every day.

We just have to be bold enough to be uncomfortable to see.
