CEO Berrada is aiming for the Premier League title within two years

Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada says the club is in a « good place » to win Premier League or next season or the next.

Berrada set his sights on the club’s 21st Premier League title by 2028 when he was appointed in 2023, which would be their 150th anniversary.

A strong finish to the season – following the mid-season arrival of Michael Carrick – saw the Red Devils finish third in the Premier League and secure a return to the Champions League, and the club boss believes a first league title since 2013 is close.

« Ideally we’ll do it next season and if not, then the season after. I think we’re in a good place, » he told Inside Man Utd.

« We will continue to invest in different areas of the club. There are other goals off the pitch that we would like to achieve.

« One of them is to be financially sustainable, to bring commercial innovation to the club. »

Berrada: We want Bruno to stay

Berrada insisted United plan to keep hold of captain Bruno Fernandes after an excellent season in which he won the FWA Player of the Season award and broke the Premier League record for most assists in a season with 21.

« I think we have a fantastic captain in Bruno. Absolutely fantastic, » added Berrada.

Pressed on whether he wanted him to stay at the club, the United boss said:

« We’d like him to stay. Of course we do. He’s had a great season on the pitch and more importantly, I think he’s shown everyone that he’s a great leader.

« People don’t see what he does off the field and he deserves a lot of respect. »

The transfer strategy of last summer will continue

As for their transfer plans this summer, Berrada said Manchester United will continue with the strategy set in place last summer, which saw the signings of Brian Mbeumo, Mateusz Cunha and Benjamin Cesko.

« The pattern of what we did last summer will be replicated, » he added.

« You never know how you’re going to get out of the window. You have to be really prepared, you have to have a clear plan, you have to know which positions you want to strengthen and you also have to be prepared for every possibility.

« There may be exits that you didn’t expect or opportunities that weren’t there at the start of the window. We have to be nimble and flexible.

« We have a clear plan. (Director of football) Jason Wilcox and his team are well prepared to execute that plan.

« What we saw last season is a good way forward for us.

« We want a combination of experience and youth. A combination of players who have shown they can play in the Premier League and players who are doing very well outside the Premier League.

« Whatever decisions we make will not only be short-term, but also long-term. »
