Norway are on course to retain their place in the knockout stages of world championshipby leading against Senegal.
The Scandinavian side were shaky in the opening stages against the African nation, with the game quickly turning into an end-to-end contest.
But it took until the 43rd minute to find the breakthrough and Erling Haaland’s name was not on the scoresheet.
Instead, his team-mate Markus Pedersen raced home after Martin Odegaard’s cross was poorly controlled by Kalidou Koulibaly.
The forward buried it past Edouard Mendy at the near post, sending the New York crowd into a frenzy.
It could have been two at the break had it not been for a strange miss by Haaland.
The Manchester City player showed his relentless hunger by pressing the Senegal goalkeeper with the ball at his feet.
And on that occasion he stole the ball away from him before turning and hitting the crossbar rather than the empty net.
He then saw a smart header saved by Mendy and vented his frustration as both teams headed in at half-time.
However, Norway remain on course to qualify, with France having already done so following their victory over Iraq.
